#ThrowBack to the #WomenInRotary2020 5th Annual Dinner that was organised by EASSI Eastern Africa Sub region in partnership with Rotary Club of Kampala Naalya to commemorate the #IWD2020.
Conducted under the theme "Women, Leadership, and Power," the event brough together hundreds of active women professionals across fields to connect, renew and find inspiration.
The main speakers at the Dinner needed no introduction: our Executive Director, Hon. Sheila Kawamara Mishambi graced the stage to talk about the Ugandan Women's Movement and our collective role in it; WHILE the Speaker of Uganda's Parliament - Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, Geraldine Ssali - the former Deputy Managing Director NSSF Uganda, Judy Obire Gama - the Executive Diretor National Identification and Registration Authority, and Cerina Tugume - the Founder/CEO of Serene Beauty talked about their experiences while working in patriarchy settings.
Additionally, they shared inspiring lessons and tips that other women vying for leadership and management positions can tap into to succeed.

The Women’s Economic Empowerment Convening held in
Kampala, Uganda, February 25 to 27, 2020 for Women Leaders came to an end yesterday, but the conversation is not over.
Our special recognition go to Urgent Action Fund-Africa, whose financial contribution made it possible for us to organise the Event, and to EASSI Eastern Africa Sub region & Seatini Uganda staff for being the driving force behind the whole process.
We also want to take this opportunity to appreciate our online community, whose contributions made the Event more colorful and impactful.
All we saw was passion during the last 3 days, especially as
women entrepreneurs shared their experiences and as other participants deliberated on ways to intensify #WEE interventions.
This is the kind of passion we need if we are to bolster advocacy efforts for the effective implementation of #WEE programmes & regulatory frameworks.
As the organizers of this Conveninig, we commit to continue supporting and building the capacity of Women Entrepreneurs until their contributions are not only made visible to national and regional economic policy makers, but are
also considered legitimate and formally supported.
We shall document and share commitments from the Event for advocacy purposes.

We have just concluded with the #PressBriefing, where our Executive Director, Hon. Sheila Kawamara Mishambi and Women Entreprenuers from Busia, Katuna and Milama Hills Borders addressed the media.
The issues that took centre centre at the briefing are as follows:
- The financial pain inflicted by the closure of the #UgandaRwanda border on Women Traders, with pressers calling for its re-opening
- The need to intensify advocacy for progressive, gender-responsive regulations, institutions & social norms.
- The importance of advocating for inclusive markets, businesses & employment practices.
- The significance of women’s voice and agency in economic decision making in key spheres.
- Promoting the investment in the strengthening of individual and collective capacities
- Strengthen the capacities for Women’s Economic Empowerment actors by promoting evidence based research, documentation and operationalization of advocacy, communications and media engagement strategies and plans for Women’s Economic Empowerment.
- Intentionally changing the narratives on women’s economic empowerment through communications and media engagement.
- Changing the narratives on women’s economic empowerment through policy engagement and advocacy.
