Dr. Elizabeth Akinyi Nzioki holds a PhD degree in Anthropology; a Master of Arts (MA), Sociology, and a Bachelor Education from the University of Nairobi. She is a seasoned researcher, leader and feminist activist, with excellent analytical skills. Dr. Akinyi has authored and published several books and articles.
She has got extensive experience in managing development programs and providing intellectual leadership on gender issues in the East Africa region and globally.
Dr. Akinyi is a member of the Women’s Movement in Eastern Africa and has facilitated several processes aimed at advancing women’s rights in respect to land reforms; social inclusion and poverty; agriculture and rural development; women’s social, economic and political participation and empowerment.
During the development of the National Gender Policy for Kenya, Dr. Akinyi provided expert back up support to the Women’s Bureau and also offered Technical Expertise for the National Gender Policy for the Republic of Liberia. She offered Technical Support on Gender Inclusion during the Constitutional Making in the Peace Agenda for the Republic of Somalia; she was the Chairperson of the ‘Socio-Cultural Equity, and Land Tenure during the Kenya National Land Formulation Process and also the Chairperson of the Task Force developing two legislation: Community Land Bill and Evictions and Resettlement Bill in the Ministry of Lands in Kenya; among other assignments.
She is a founder member of EASSI; former Chairperson and currently she serves on the EASSI Board of Directors as an individual member, representing Kenya.
